The Canal del Ferro – Val Canale Inter-Municipal Territorial Union
BackThe Canal del Ferro – Val Canale Inter-Municipal Territorial Union with its headquarters in Pontebba, is a local authority with a legal personality acting as a union of Municipalities. It was founded thanks to regional law n. 24/2014 to carry out a coordinated series of functions and municipal, supra-municipal and large area services, as well as territorial, economic and social development.
The Unione took over the Gemonese, Canal del Ferro and Val Canale Mountain Community, from which it has inherited, among other things, both the Canal del Ferro – Val Canale Ethnographic Museum in Palazzo Veneziano in Malborghetto and the participation in the GeoTrAC project.
The Union owns the Canal del Ferro – Val Canale Ethnographic Museum that is in the so-called “Palazzo Veneziano”, a prestigious residential building overlooking the Malborghetto square, that was purchased in 1982 by the Canal del Ferro – Val Canale Mountain Community. The directive of that time destined the building to be used as an ethnographic museum and a documentation centre.
Today, the Museum is the indispensable starting point to get to know the Valcanale, its history, its traditions and its splendid nature. A trip to the Museum in Malborghetto means undertaking a fascinating “journey” through geology, palaeontology, natural science, history and ethnography, carrying out an in-depth study, also through dioramas and slideshows of great beauty, aspects regarding the Tarvisio Forest – the largest Italian state forest – and the ancient, vital traditions, result of the convergence of the three great European cultures: Latin, German and Slavic.
