Geological Bureau - Regione Autonoma FVG
The Geological Service of the Central Environment and Energy Department of the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia deals with geology in a broad sense throughout the regional territory, ranging between the prevention of natural disasters, such as landslides, the geological compatibility of town-planning tools, the promotion of studies and research, geological mapping, mining activities, as well as the mining-related fulfilments, mining police and geo-thermal resources.
More specifically, it is the only regional department that is competent as regards the protection and valorisation of geo-diversities and geological heritage and as such, it has been the promoter of Regional Law n. 15 “Provisions for the protection and valorisation of geodiversity, geological and speleological heritage and of the Karst areas” dated 14th October 2016, during the context of which, upon the premises of the Service itself, the Regional Geosite and Geopark Register and the provisions for their protection and management have been drafted.
This service, particularly interested in geodiffusion, has created, also through the funds of the national INFEA programme (Environmental Education Information), several publications, some of which, thanks to a fruitful collaboration with the two main regional Universities and the Friuli Museum of Natural History in Udine.
